Historian vs.

Triple Whale

Triple Whale measures your channels and attribution. Historian adds what happened on the site around them.

The short version

Triple Whale is an analytics and attribution platform built mainly for Shopify brands. Its first-party pixel stitches together ad clicks and orders, its dashboards put ad platforms next to store revenue, and its AI, Moby, answers questions and helps run the ad accounts.

Historian starts from the site. It records what visitors do on each page, keeps a copy of your pages every day, captures your competitors' front pages, and has agents that connect what changed to what happened to revenue.

Key differences in depth

Channels vs. the site

Triple Whale answers where revenue came from: which channel, which campaign, which creative. It is strong at it, especially for Shopify brands that spend heavily on paid social.

Historian answers what happened on the site: which page changed, which element stopped earning, what the landing page looked like when the campaign ran. Ad changes are on the same timeline, matched with changes to the landing page on the same day.

Memory

Dashboards show the numbers for any period. Historian also shows the page as it was in that period, so last November's campaign can be seen, not just measured.

When each tool makes sense

Choose Triple Whale when:

  • You run a Shopify brand with significant spend across many ad platforms
  • Multi-touch attribution is your main question
  • You want one dashboard for ads and store revenue

Choose Historian when:

  • You want to know what changed on the site, and what it did to revenue
  • You want your pages kept, every day, with heatmaps on each version
  • You want your competitors' front pages on the same timeline as yours
  • You want agents that explain a change, not just report a number

Used together

Triple Whale shows a Meta campaign's return falling. Historian shows that its landing page changed the same week, what it looked like before, and what visitors from Meta did differently on it.
