Mobile vs Desktop Strategy Advisor
Tracks whether the mobile gap is narrowing or widening — and why
- agent ›The mobile gap is widening. In September mobile converted at 1.1% against 2.6% on desktop — 2.4× lower, up from 1.9× in August.
- you ›Mobile always converts worse. Every shop has that gap.
- agent ›It does, and I don't flag the gap. I flag the change: it held at 1.8–1.9× for five months, then jumped in one. Desktop didn't move; mobile fell.
- you ›Okay. What happened in September?
- agent ›On 9 September the category pages got a new filter panel, which opens full-screen on mobile. Since then mobile visitors on category pages reach a product page 22% less often.
- agent ›Try the old filter on mobile only. If the gap goes back to 1.9×, that is worth about DKK 31,000 a month.
What it does
Every shop converts worse on mobile than on desktop, so the gap itself tells you little. This agent watches its direction instead: month by month, is mobile catching up with desktop, holding steady or falling further behind? A stable gap is left alone. When the gap moves, it looks at what moved with it — which pages lost mobile conversion, and which changes Historian captured on the mobile versions of those pages around the time it happened. The insight gives the gap this month and the months before, the pages where mobile fell, the change that most likely caused it, and what closing the gap back to its usual level is worth.
An example insight.
What a result from Mobile vs Desktop Strategy Advisor looks like. The numbers are an illustration, not a customer's.
Mobile-desktop gap widened to 2.3× — filter UX is the cause
Mobile conversion is now 2.3× lower than desktop, up from 1.8× last month. The drop is concentrated on category pages, where mobile visitors stopped using the filter after it was rebuilt — the new dropdown is hard to use on small screens.
