Pre-Redesign Revenue Baseline Auditor

Audits revenue baselines to protect conversion metrics during redesigns

  1. agent ›Baseline 'Before redesign' is saved, timestamped today. 11% of your pages bring in 74% of your revenue. Highest risk: 'Gift cards' — 1% of traffic, 9% of revenue, and not in the main menu, so it's easy to forget.
  2. you ›The agency is rebuilding everything from scratch anyway. Why does the old site matter?
  3. agent ›Because six weeks after launch someone will ask whether the new site is better. Without a baseline, the answer is an opinion. This snapshot is what the launch gets measured against.
  4. you ›Fine. What goes into the brief?
  5. agent ›The ten high-risk pages, each with what earns its money. On the bike category page, for example, 'Filter by frame size' gets 31% of all clicks. The new design can change how it looks — it can't leave it out.
  6. you ›And pages that aren't on the list?
  7. agent ›They're in the baseline too, so nothing is lost. The list is just where a mistake would hurt the most.

What it does

Run it before a redesign begins. It takes a complete evidence snapshot of how the current site earns its money: which pages, which templates and which individual elements are responsible for most of the conversions. The snapshot is saved as a named, timestamped Chronicle baseline — the benchmark the new site will be measured against once it launches, so 'is the new site better?' gets an answer instead of an opinion. It also flags the ten highest-risk pages: the ones that drive a disproportionate share of revenue and must be protected, or explicitly replaced, in the redesign brief — each with the elements that earn that revenue.

Gift cards: 1% of traffic, 9% of revenue — protect it in the redesign brief

Baseline saved. 11% of the site's pages bring in 74% of its revenue. The highest-risk page is 'Gift cards': it is not in the main menu, so it is easy to leave out of a new structure, and it carries 9% of revenue.
